"We are what we eat" - this is a well known saying that is literally true. Food is necessary for our physical, and the purest of food - The most pure and healthy body. But this also works for the mind as well - a diet of pure food creates pure thoughts which results in a pure mind.

If ever there was a moment I thought of my neglect the practice of yoga was when I got to the carpet, after many days of abstinence and barley could touch my toes! This has certainly been the case in my past experience - until I started seriously a diet of pure, raw and natural foods.

Later came to do my practice after a week of unrest, at a time of eating fruits and vegetables 100%, and where he usually feels stiff, was strikingly curved. This was my test, and my moment of "Ah I see!" surrounding the relevance and importance of diet yogi.

A pure, natural diet - 'Sattvic' - is one of the fresh fruits, vegetables and some grains. Energy - "Prana" - runs through all living things - to eat a piece of food that is "alive" is to nurture the body and mind and be very beneficial in Yoga. Food must be consumed in its pure and natural - many of which must be raw.

The elements of sun, water, air and earth (ground) work together to create our food here on earth - fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts, seeds, grains, plants. They are charged with energy from the sun - and eating in its raw state and untampered, we gain maximum goodness.

The 3 Gunas

The 3 Gunas are the 3 qualities of the energy of the unmanifested universe - and apply to all living things, including food. Sattva (purity), rajas (activity, passion, change), Tamas (darkness). When energy really takes shape then one of these energies becomes predominant (though others are always present). A good example is the fruit of an apple tree - the ripe fruit is sattvic, fruit ripening is rajasic, and mature is Tamas. It's just the lighting - 'Samadhi' - that the gunas are completely transcended.

Sattvic Food - This is the purest of foods - and Yogi perfect diet to follow. It is feeding the body and mind, resulting in a state peacefeul. A diet will lead to health sattvic truth. Sattvic foods are fruits and vegetables, nuts and seeds, whole grains, legumes, cabbage, milk, butter and cheese, honey and herbal tea. (everything must be organic and not canned or frozen)

Rajasic Foods - These foods are hot, bitter, sour, dry or salty. The excess of these foods will be more to stimulate the body, exciting the passions - resulting a feeling of uneasiness and uncomfortable. Rajasic foods include strong and hot herbs and spices, stimulants like tea and coffee, fish, eggs and salt. To fast food is also considered to be slits.

Tamasic Food - This diet will not bring any benefits to the mind or body. Energy - "Prana" - Is missing in these foods, the body's resistance to disease is destroyed and the dark emotions occur. Tamasic foods include meat, alcohol, snuff, onion, garlic, stale and fermented foods. A binge eating is also considered tamas.

Meat contains more protein than it actually is needed, and is also loaded with toxins and tends to cause the disease - (it is reported that 80% of cases of food poisoning are caused by eating meat). We must ask ourselves whether we can eat meat with a clear conscience - "Ahimsa", the sanctity of all life, is among the highest laws in the philosophy Yoga. This can not be disreguarded if we are to grow spiritually. All life is sacred. Fully 'conscious' should apply to foods that we eat too much.

Many people fear that if they stop eating meat will produce a protein deficiency. Animal protein, in fact, contains too much uric acid, which is very difficult for the liver to break it down - some removed, but the rest is deposited in the joints that cause stiffness. The less meat you eat - the body is less rigid. Good sources of protein are nuts, legumes (including soy) and dairy products. Vegetarians eat about twice as much fiber than meat-eaters, eat less fat and more fiber.

The sattvic food choices are enormous and even the simplest of ingredients can be prepared in a multitude of different ways. To ensure a balanced diet - eating a regular combination of food groups mentioned for a pure diet.

How can you shake your yoga routine?

Is it necessary to join a yoga studio and / or have an instructor, or is there a Do-it-yourself way based raises?
